Our Journey

Finnitsea was founded by Dane Stimart to bring deep experience from global strategics, startups, and healthcare innovation into a dedicated consulting firm focused on helping great ideas succeed.

Dane brings nearly two decades of MedTech and HealthTech experience developing, commercializing, and scaling healthcare innovations. During 13 years at Medtronic, he led global portfolio strategy, product development, and commercialization across multiple businesses — including BrainSense aDBS, recognized by TIME Magazine as one of the Best Inventions of 2025.

Over the past five years, Dane has guided early-stage companies through development, market preparation, and strategic growth, while providing advisory services to the NIH, academic institutions, and innovators across the healthcare ecosystem. He also serves as a Senior Lecturer at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, where he teaches applied innovation and commercialization.

He holds a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from the Carlson School of Management — all from the University of Minnesota.

Our Name

The name Finnitsea draws inspiration from the Finn, the longest-standing Olympic-class single-handed sailboat. Known for its precision and challenge, the Finn has long been a proving ground where sailors learn the fundamentals before advancing to larger vessels and open-ocean racing.
